Results, Summer Series Race 5 (August 19)

The Word from Race Captain Bob:

Greetings Campers,

It feels like fall is in the air.  The days are getting noticeably shorter.  Yesterday’s weather was lovely for racing sailboats.  The wind, which had been threatening not to make an appearance, was blowing nicely by 5:30, sending white-caps & some rollers up the channel between St Helens & Sand Island.  By the start, the wind backed down some and the water became flatter.  The Committee sent us on a 5 mile course, and all boats returned safely to their slips.  There was, however, a moment on Barnestormer, as water sloshed above the floorboards in the cabin, that I lost my focus on the race.  Packing gland was leaking a smidge, I guess.

A few boats from the racing fleet were missing, for various reasons.  The gang from Nanuk took their big boat (and Sleazy Dog’s skipper) to play in the blue water (which really isn’t blue) of the Pacific in the Bridge to Bridge Race.  Raven took the day off, as Rick recoups his meaness after some surgery.  (Libby reports that everything went perfectly, so we can expect that we will soon be subject once again to his lack of magnanimity.)  Get well, Rick!
